PLANCHA GRILL

Choosing a plancha grill that suits you

If you want to choose the best plancha grill, you should choose one according to your cooking experience. If you are a chef with exacting standards, consider a gas plancha. Gas planchas have a quicker heat-up time and have temperature nobs that allow you to control the heat. On the other hand, if you are a reserved chef, then an electric plancha would be the right way to go.

Characteristics of plancha grills

Plancha grills are catering equipment used to sear meats and vegetables. They were originally designed in Spain and utilize temperatures of over 350 digress to grill food. Plancha grills are made of cooking plates placed on several burners controlled by adjustment knobs. Most plancha grills range from those on trolleys to those on frames to those without either. The quality of plancha grills depends on the source of power, the cooking plate material, and its finishing. The most standard plancha grill on a budget has a stainless-steel frame, three gas burners running up to 7500 W, and a cast-iron cooking plate.

Electric plancha grills are convenient in terms of energy and are affordable. However, they have a low heat-up time and are less powerful compared to gas plancha grills. Also, before choosing which plancha to buy, don't forget to consider:

  • The type and quality of the cooking plate. It can either be enameled or cast iron.
  • The number of burners on the plancha.
  • Last but not least, the number of people you are cooking for. The higher the number, the bigger the grill.

Choosing the best plancha grill equipment

The best plancha grill has a frame and a cooking plate, which should be considered separately. The most important part of a plancha is the cooking surface; this can be either enameled or stainless. Stainless steel plates are quality; however, enameled steel has a nice finish and is very resistant. If you want to choose a plate for your plancha, your choice will come to one of the following plates.

  • Enameled cast iron plates pride in fair heat distribution since it has the highest thermal conductivity. Plates made of this material are undoubtedly the best in terms of cost-efficiency.
  • The hard-chrome plate is an expensive cooking plate but a top-of-the-line grill. Also, this grill is not only easy to clean but also easy to maintain. Hard-chrome plates are thick and offer the best grilling quality.
  • Stainless-steel plates are resistant to high temperatures and a good conductivity rate, though not as good as cast iron. They are easy to maintain and clean; this type of model is best for hygienic characters.
  • Carbon steel plates are a cost-effective option and scratch-resistant. Sadly, they are susceptible to corrosion, especially if the coating fades off. Luckily, one can always apply oil to the plates and care for them, even when the coat fades off.
  • The last plate in question is the enameled steel plate. These are resistant to abrasion and easy to clean.
